“Missing Pieces”

Statement

This small chair, with missing pieces and cuts that defy gravity, is an exploration of the impact of loss and imperfection on our identity. Its absences, loose threads, and fragile joints evoke the parts that have fallen away or were never present, both in our own lives and in those of our ancestors.

Rather than concealing what is missing, this work turns absence into the main character: what is gone also shapes us. Scars and voids become visible traces of our story, reminding us that the incom-plete and the broken are not flaws, but evidence of our resilience.

More than a search for conventional aesthetic harmony, the piece invites us to recognize beauty in what is irregular, fragmented, and imperfect. Missing Pieces is a testament to how, even with fractures and absences, we remain whole: a unique body woven together by our losses and by the strength that emerges from them.
